Born in a small town in Mexico, she learned to read and write at the age of three and, from a very young age, her verses stood out in the court of New Spain. In 1667, she entered a convent of the Carmelites and two years later she transferred to convent of the Order of Saint Jerome, where she created some of her most important works.

Austen portrayed characters with deep and diverse psychological shades. The influence of these works was such that many have been adapted to the cinema with great success.
